ACEC/MA 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards

FST entered two projects in the 2015 American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards. The Runway 33L End Safety Area at Logan International Airport  project won a Gold Award, and  The Logan Airport Greenway Connector project has been awarded a Bronze Award.

Bay Street Bridge/Morey's Dam Replacement Project : Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials Award

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Bay Street Bridge/Morey's Dam Replacement project in Taunton was honored at the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials (NASTO) Conference in Portsmouth, NH, in the Best Small Project – Under Budget category. FST led a team of consultants to develop the design plans and contract documents for the project under MassDOT's Accelerated Bridge Program. In announcing the winner, NASTO noted the words of a judge from the American Transportation Association, who called the project a "great example of turning an unfortunate situation into a positive outcome...These are the kinds of projects that make people feel good about infrastructure."

FST Wins ACEC-NH Engineering Excellence Award
FST's Turner Center Bridge Replacement Project in Turner and Greene, Maine won the American Council of Engineering Companies of New Hampshire (ACEC-NH) Engineering Excellence Award for Structural Systems. The winners were announced at the ACEC-NH annual EEA luncheon in Manchester, New Hampshire, on March 19, 2015. Read about the award here.

ACEC/MA 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards


FST received high honors for two projects at the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts Engineering Excellence Gala on March 19, 2014. The Gold Award winner was the FST-led Bay Street Reconstruction/Morey Dam Construction for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) in Taunton, MA. The project’s use of accelerated construction methods shortened the anticipated construction duration and length of time Bay Street was closed. FST earned a Silver Award for its work on the River Street Bridge Replacement in the Hyde Park section of Boston. The replacement was built next to the existing site and moved into place. This required a shutdown of the bridge only over the span of one weekend.

WTS-Boston Employer of the Year Award 2014


Fay, Spofford & Thorndike was honored with the Employer of the Year Award from WTS-Boston at the organization's Annual Awards & Scholarship Dinner on June 4, 2014. WTS-Boston acknowledged the firm's long dedication to advancing the cause of a safe, efficient transportation system in Boston and throughout the Northeast. "FST's current leadership group focuses on maintaining the tradition of technical excellence and client service on which the firm was built, while adapting to changing times and industry trends. They are strong advocates of alternative delivery methods and new technology, and the firm offers its staff challenging work across a diverse range of project types, sizes, clients and disciplines," read the awards program.

Runway 33L End Safety Improvements Project wins Infrastructure Project of the Year Award


FST Team accepted an Infrastructure Project of the Year Award from the Construction Management Association of America, New England Chapter for the Design-Build Owner's Representative, Runway 33L End Safety Improvements Project at Logan International Airport. The project owner is the Massachusetts Port Authority, with FST taking the lead as the Authority's Owner's Representative. The project was the top winner in the category of projects of less than $100 million in construction. The award was presented on April 23, 2013 at the CMAA's 19th Annual Awards in Boston, MA.

University Parking Garage Wins Award

FST's design of the CarParc Diem Parking Garage at Montclair State University in New Jersey has received the National Precast Concrete Association 2012 Creative Use of Precast Award in the Above-Ground Parking category. FST led structural design of the 1,500-car structure, and managed the team responsible for architecture, geotechnical and civil engineering, landscaping, and MEP for the new campus facility.

FST's Jamestown Water Supply Project Awarded ACEC/MA Silver Award 2013

FST received a Silver Award for their submission, "Fitting the Pieces Together: Jamestown's Water Supply Dilemma" from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. During a summer drought in 1993, the National Guard was forced to truck in 7.5 million gallons of water to the island community of Jamestown, RI. Beginning in 1998, FST has worked with Jamestown to meet its water quantity and quality challenges. The implementation of a series of innovative, simple concepts has doubled the water supply and storage capabilities.

Bronx Parking Garage Wins 2011 PCI Design Award

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) recently announced the winners of the 49th Annual PCI Design Awards competition, which recognizes excellence in precast, prestressed concrete structures. FST's 164th Street Garage in the Bronx, NY, was a winner in the Parking Structures: 0-999 Cars category. This was part of a larger project in which FST was Structural Engineer of Record for the design of new parking structures, park land and the rehabilitation and modifications to the two other existing garages for the new Yankee Stadium.

Yankee Stadium Parking Garages Award

The new Yankee Stadium Parking Garages, for which FST served as the design/build team's Design Engineer, have won the "Building of America" award from Real Estate & Construction Review for the New York/Philadelphia region. The Real Estate & Construction Review noted: "After reviewing project submissions on hundreds of terrific new construction and renovation projects, Yankee Stadium Redevelopment project -Parking Structures was rated as one of the most imaginative, unique, innovative and dynamic projects in the New York/Philadelphia area, thereby winning the "Building of America" Award."

ACEC-NY Honors FST's 100th

The New York chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC-NY) honored Fay, Spofford & Thorndike (FST) for achieving its 100th year in business at a ceremony held during the annual winter conference in Albany on January 27, 2014.The award was presented to FST President Peter J. Howe, P.E., and FST Senior Vice President Jim Branch, P.E., by ACEC-NY Board of Directors Chairwoman Linda Shumaker, P.E. and Awards and Recognition Committee Chairman Dan Savage.In accepting the trophy for FST, Howe thanked ACEC and noted that many of the firm's signature projects over the years are in New York. This includes the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the New Jersey Turnpike and  the original Lake Champlain Bridge. FST also recently won accolades for its work on four parking garages at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

FST Recognized for Commitment to Young Professionals

The New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), at its annual meeting in September, honored Fay, Spofford & Thorndike with its 2013 Young Professional Employer Support Award for outstanding efforts to support the involvement of younger employees in the association."This award recognizes Fay, Spofford & Thorndike's outstanding encouragement and support of younger employees becoming involved in association committees, speaking at meetings and conferences, publishing professional papers, and participating in various member events," said Raymond J. Raposa, NEWWA executive director.
