June 5, 2014

Fay, Spofford & Thorndike was honored with the Employer of the Year Award from WTS-Boston at the organization's Annual Awards & Scholarship Dinner on June 4 at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. FST President Peter J. Howe, P.E., accepted the award on behalf of the 100-year-old firm.

In awarding the prestigious honor to FST, WTS-Boston acknowledged the firm's long dedication to advancing the cause of a safe, efficient transportation system in Boston and throughout the Northeast. "FST's current leadership group focuses on maintaining the tradition of technical excellence and client service on which the firm was built, while adapting to changing times and industry trends. They are strong advocates of alternative delivery methods and new technology, and the firm offers its staff challenging work across a diverse range of project types, sizes, clients and disciplines," read the awards program.

WTS-Boston also recognized FST for its commitment to supporting its staff's involvement in the organization, including long-time members and contributors Marie Harris, P.E.; Heather Ostertog, P.E.; and Jill McLaughlin, P.E. Also in attendance at the event was FST Associate and Vice President Jen Ducey, P.E., who won a WTS-Boston Scholarship at the same event in 1999.

FST President Howe, in his acceptance speech, thanked WTS-Boston and noted that among the many organizations to which FST belongs, WTS is one of the highest priorities due to its [WTS-Boston Employer of the Year-FST] focus on advancing the causes of transportation and women in engineering, as well as its broad and impressive cross-section of members and affiliated organizations. For this reason, FST is a Platinum Sponsor of WTS-Boston, the highest level available.

Other award winners at the event included MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott, who was named Woman of the Year, and MassDOT, Nantucket Memorial Airport and the USDOT/Volpe Center, which won the Innovative Transportation Solutions Award for the first in the nation "Carbon Neutral" Airport Project.
