Massport Officially Opens Framingham Garage

July 15, 2015

Life got a little easier for MetroWest residents and travelers with the opening of Massport’s new Logan Express Garage and Terminal in Framingham. Cleared for use in April while the final construction details were completed, the FST-designed project was honored with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, July 13, 2015.

Director of Capital Programs, Sam Sleiman officiated the event, which featured several other state and local officials, as well as FST’s project manager Darcy DeGeorge. Massport CEO Tom Glynn said the authority has seen a 47% increase in customers using the new facility, in addition to the 400,000 it historically serves annually. “It has exceeded our expectations,” he said.

Located at 11 Burr St. Extension, the complex features a four-story garage with 1,037 parking spaces. Massport tapped FST for design and Consigli Construction to build the facility from the ground up. Completed in about ten months, the $33 million project is drawing great reviews.

State Senator Karen Spilka of Ashland said, “To double the space here is a phenomenal opportunity for this state-of-the-art facility. It’s a great location. I’m just really proud of having it here in my district.”

The garage also has spaces reserved for alternate-fuel vehicles and four electric vehicle charging ports.

Joining Sleiman, Glynn, Spilka and DeGeorge in the ribbon cutting were Worcester County Sheriff and Massport board member Lew Evangelidis; Massachusetts Rep. Chris Walsh; Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin; Luciana Burdi, Deputy Director of Capital Programs at Massport; and David Doane, Massport Project Manager.

FST developed numerous concept layouts for the garage, considering the ideal footprint for the small site and most efficient bay sizes while optimizing vehicle and passenger circulation.
