About this Project
FST performed a feasibility study to determine the physical and operational requirements and economic feasibility for providing full accessibility for the elderly and disabled in compliance with guidelines set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act at two transit stations – one underground station in The Bronx and one elevated station in Queens. The use of 3-D modeling helped identify effective and economical solutions for providing accessibility in these very complex structures, and provided an excellent visualization tool for presenting various options to stakeholders. The 3-D modeling was instrumental in minimizing the required structural modifications, utility impacts and impact to transit operations. As prime consultant and civil/structural engineer, FST was responsible for coordinating a multi-discipline team to develop design alternatives and identify the most cost-effective solutions.
Scope of work included civil/structural engineering, architecture, MEP, surveying and cost estimating.
