About this Project
FST is currently designing an addition to an existing combat systems engineering building where they develop computer software for the Aegis Weapons System.
The expansion project consists of approximately 72,000 square feet of new construction. The new building will connect to the existing CSEDS (Combat System Engineering Development Site) building.
The CSEDS facility will consist of a two story main building and a single story double-height deckhouse. The first floor will consist of a controlled access lobby, classified media library, SCIF compliant room, shipping/receiving, open office space, classrooms, cafeteria/vending, a command suite, VTC Room, SIPR Room, conference rooms and mechanical/electrical space. The second floor consists of Combat System Equipment space as a shell-and-core for future tenant interior construction. The proposed CSEDS facility expansion will connect to the existing facility on the first floor.
The project included the design of plumbing systems for over 1000 occupants, which included fixtures, domestic hot water and compressed air. It also involved the design of new heating and cooling infrastructure that consisted of a 1000MBH high efficiency gas fire condensing boiler system and a 700 ton chiller system that utilizes demineralized water. Electrical design consisted of two 24.6 kV primary feeds for increased reliability, as well as new medium voltage transformers, upgrades to the existing switch gear and a new 500 kW emergency generator.

Highlights: In addition to the “’as usual” MEP/FP/Structural Design, FST had to meet stringent Anti-Terrorism Force Protection design requirements mandated by the department of defense for the high security building, as well as design to meet seismic requirements.
