About this Project
FST developed a Design/Build RFP for the procurement of two new 300-ton per hour, permanent in-ground, custom built snowmelter facilities for the South and East ramps at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. FST worked closely with Airport Operations staff to develop the custom specifications for the facilities.
Following the abandonment of the Design/Build format, the Airport asked FST to repackage the RFP as a two-step process. The first step was to procure the equipment supplier, and the second to secure an installation contractor through a standard design/bid/build process. FST rewrote the specifications and contract documents in order to procure the equipment supplier. A pre-qualifications package was developed, and then a full RFP sent to the pre-qualified suppliers. Proposals have been received and are currently under review.
FST worked with the supplier to develop the site design for the removal and demolition of the existing system along with the installation of the new facilities. Additional tasks included over a half mile of new 6-inch gas supply main and coordination with water and power supply utilities. The major upgrade of the gas supply to the snowmelters nearly doubled the existing capacity.
Owner: City of Manchester
Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Highlights: The two facilities will service over 40 acres of ramp, apron and taxiway, replacing the aging 120-ton per hour facilities.
