About this Project
The FST team recently completed a design of Building 174 located at the Portsmouth Navac Shipyard and is currently providing construction services for the project as the Designer of Record under a design-build conract. The project will provide a whole building renovation to approximately 157,600 square feet of the West End Waterfront Support Facility (Building 174), which supports several waterfront shops and multiple project engineering teams. Approximately 1,900 personnel servicing two drydocks and outfitting piers used for Virginia and Los Angeles Class submarine overhauls will benefit from the improvements.
This project was funded and designed as an Energy Enhancement Special Project. Energy savings greater than those necessary to receive LEED Energy and Atmosphere credits were required . Features incorporated to achieve the energy savings figure include: envelope improvements (including high R-value siding, windows and roofing assemblies), solar domestic hot water roof collectors, roof-mounted photovoltaic collectors, low-flow plumbing fixtures, automated building controls, energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems, and advanced energy metering devices.
