About this ProjectAs part of FST's sewer separation work in Dorchester, the Boston Water & Sewer Commission asked FST to evaluate the need for storm drainage improvements in Morrissey Boulevard. FST assessed the existing network including the Dorchester Interceptor, Boston Main Interceptor, Columbus Park Connection, and CSO conduits from Regulators 087-1, 087-3 and 087-7. Upstream conduit from areas proposed to be separated was also considered.
The key element of the recommended system improvements was design of a 12' x 12' box conduit in a major arterial through a heavily urbanized area. The conduit outlets to Patten's Cove as a replacement of a 60-inch outfall.
Under a separate contract, FST designed the box conduit and all ancillary system connections. FST performed hydraulic and hydrological modeling for a 10-year Type III storm event concurrent with high tide to refine preliminary drainage conduit sizing and control elevations. FST's role also included all environmental permits.
