About this Project
For the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), FST completed design and construction administration for the replacement of three wastewater pumping stations serving various areas of Quincy.
The project involved construction of a new station at each site to replace an existing one. Design entailed all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, instrumentation and control equipment and systems, as well as geotechnical and structural elements. Given the proximity of these stations to residential and recreational areas, noise and odor control were primary concerns. FST's design for odor control called for activated carbon units. Mitigation of noise involved use of noise suppressing architectural treatments and judicious selection and orientation of equipment.
The project also involved force main rehabilitation contracts.

Highlights: The 1.1 MGD Hough's Neck Pumping Station, 7.5 MGD Squantum Pumping Station and 26.0 MGD Quincy Pumping Station incorporate superstructures with architectural treatments that complement each site aesthetically. Each features in-channel grinding of influent flow solids, PLC pump controllers and provisions for remote monitoring via the MWRA's central SCADA system.The work was completed with minimal disruption to wetlands, coastal waters, and public activities.
