Training Ship Berth Rehabilitation

Training Ship Berth Rehabilitation

Buzzards Bay, MA

About this Project

At the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, FST designed improvements to the training ship berth including a new bulkhead and wharf to moor the TV Enterprise.

The project included construction of a new 380ft anchored sheetpile bulkhead landward of an existing timber bulkhead; a new 355ft pile supported wharf to provide a uniform berthing face for the 18,000 ton training ship; demolition of the existing wharf; removal of existing riprap; new utilities; and fill behind the new sheeting.

FST designed replacement of riprap, a new wharf, a new fender system, and new utilities for the training ship, including steam, water, electrical power, lighting, fire protection, and wastewater management for the training ship.  Wastewater is pumped to the Academy's treatment plant via a new pump station. FST prepared and obtained all requisite environmental permits including a MEPA certificate, Order of Conditions from the Bourne Conservation Commission, a DEP Chapter 91 license and Water Quality certificate, and Army Corps Permit.
